Brandywine, Buchanan matched up in districts

NILES -- Brandywine and Buchanan, the two favorites to win the Division 3 District softball tournament at River Valley, will face each other in the semifinals of that tournament on Saturday, May 31, at 10 a.m.
The host Mustangs drew a pre-district matchup with Berrien Springs on Tuesday, May 27, at 5 p.m.
The winner of that game will take on Bridgman in the second semifinal Saturday at 12:30 p.m.
The championship game is scheduled for 3 p.m.
Brandywine is ranked No. 6 in the state and boasts a record of 28-5, the best mark in the tournament field.
The Bobcats went undefeated in the Lakeland Conference regular season which means they've swept doubleheaders from Buchanan, Berrien Springs and River Valley already this season. Brandywine also swept a doubleheader with Bridgman on April 24.
Bridgman is 19-16 while Buchanan owns a 15-16 record.
River Valley is 13-13 and Berrien Springs is 8-22.
Also taking place at River Valley High School is the Division 3 District baseball tournament.
The pairings are the same as the softball tournament only the times are swapped on Saturday.
River Valley (26-4), which is ranked No. 3 in the state, takes on Berrien Springs (17-8) in Tuesday's pre-district game at 5 p.m.
Bridgman (15-9) awaits the winner of that game in the first semifinal on Saturday at 10 a.m.
Buchanan (6-16) will take on Brandywine (12-14) in the other semifinal at 12:30 p.m.
The championship game is scheduled for 3 p.m.
