Dowagiac replacing Westendorp

Dowagiac athletic director Bob Follett has accepted the resignation of Chieftain boys' basketball coach Al Westendorp.
The school district has posted the position with a deadline for applying for the position of May 19.
Westendorp was 68-80 as Dowagiac's head coach, winning back-to-back Lakeland Conference championships in 1999-2000 and 2000-2001.
This past season, the Chieftains were 6-16 overall and 3-5 in the Big-16 Conference West Division.
In its two seasons in the Big-16, Dowagiac posted a 11-32 mark.
Dowagiac did win its first district contest since 1999 this season when it knocked off St. Joseph. The Chieftains were denied a spot in the district title game, however, when it was upset by Edwardsburg.
Prior to coming to Dowagiac, Westerndorp coached at Brandywine High School.
The district is looking for a candidate who meets the following qualifications:
The position starting date is Nov. 1, however, preseason responsibilities will begin earlier.
The salary is per the school district's Master Contract. A teaching position is to be determined.
