Young Vikings suffer two losses against K-Central

The Niles freshmen baseball team dropped a pair of games to Southwest Michigan Athletic Conference rival Kalamazoo Central Monday evening at Niles High School.
The visiting Maroon Giants beat Niles 10-2 in the first game then held on for a 6-5 win in the second.
Nick Etzcorn took the loss for the Vikings in the opener. Ryan McCormick led Niles at the plate with a double and two RBIs. Grant Goodman, Nathan Parks, Jeremy Vincent and Landon Coleman each had a single.
Vincent took the pitching loss in the second game. Parks doubled while Vincent and Mike Anglin each singled.
On Saturday the Niles freshmen team dropped a 9-0 decision to Sturgis in the first round of the Niles Invitational at Thomas Stadium.
Will Skalla took the loss for the Vikings. Goodman, Parks, Vincent and Chris Stratton each had one hit.
The young Vikings split a doubleheader with SMAC foe Coldwater Friday evening. Niles won the first game 8-6 before falling 8-7 in the second game.
Tom Robson earned the pitching victory in the first game. Stratton led Niles at the plate with a double, a single and two RBIs. Coleman and Skalla each had two hits and one RBI.
In Friday's second game, Etzcorn took the loss on the mound for the Vikings. Skalla hit three singles while Mason Stephenson hit a pair of singles. Drew Donohue and Coleman each doubled.
The Niles freshmen team returns to action Thursday with a doubleheader at home against Edwardsburg.
