Equalization report shows values increased 8.85 % over last year

CASSOPOLIS -- Equalization Director Dan Bolle said this year's equalized value, $1,851,820,795, increased 8.85 percent over last year.
The $1,851,820,795 includes $1,759,291,940 in real property and $192,528,855 in personal property. By class, the figures are $278,808,247 for agriculture, $84,409,038 for commercial, $36,698,635 for industrial and $1,359,376,020 for residential.
Commissioner David Taylor, D-Edwardsburg, questioned the "very slight difference between the assessed value and the equalized value."
In other business, the annual contract approved between the county Sheriff's Office and Howard Township for police protection is for $154,845 from April 1, 2003, to March 31, 2004, which represents 12 hours of the day instead of 24.
