Lee honors 4,515 volunteer hours

Volunteers provided 4,515.5 hours to Borgess-Lee Memorial during 2002 which the Dowagiac hospital acknowledged Thursday with a luncheon of croissants, fruit and mini-melt-in-your-mouth cream puffs.
The hospital even anticipated it would be raining after the luncheon and presented each volunteer an umbrella.
Unlike the delicate desserts, volunteers have not melted away.
Cruse, who has been with the hospital for 13 years, said, "I see so many faces that I have seen since I first started working here."
Administration volunteers include Marie Kondras, Lorraine Hattan and RitaClaire Kryst.
Alana Gonzales, Human Resources, honored Mary Alice Giles.
Bertha Dahlke, Anita Landry, Wanda Leets and Wesley Wilbanks were saluted from Pastoral Care.
Radiology's Dave Charkowski honored Betty Biek, Helen Eby, Virginia Edgerly, Pat Ganger and Charlotte Rak (285.5 hours), who also volunteers in Education with Billie Frintner.
Dietary volunteers acknowledged by Stephanie Buszka-Sobol included Rosanne Dowsett, Mable Hartman, Mary Jane Schuur and Shaun Chennault (205 hours).
Peggy Barkes, with 465.5 hours, and Bertha Dahlke were recognized from Surgery and the Special Care Unit waiting room.
Case Manager Merri Terborgh honored Frank and Lorraine Scelfo.
Volunteers feted at the annual luncheon also included Jean Zawacki (232.75 hours) from Nursing Administration, Donna Bailey from Laboratory and Harriet Abshagen, Ann Biek, Betty Biek, Mary Ciesla, Lillian Easton, Helen Eby, Virginia Edgerly, Pat Ganger, Carolyn Graham, Mary Krukowski, Teri Moore, Barb Moses, Florence Radtke, Charlotte Rak, Elva Rose, Rose Runyon, Natalie Springsteen, Lorraine Sullivan, Onnolee Van Husan, Marion Weaver, Edith Willis and Darlene Winchester from the Auxiliary Gift Shop.
Three volunteers who passed away were remembered: Emanuela "Mannie" Aldrich, 60 hours; Joyce Bashaw, 48.75 hours; and Rosemary Neff, 82.75 hours.
