The Dowagiac varsity softball team continued its roll as the Chieftains swept a non-conference doubleheader from host Three Rivers on Monday.
Dowagiac (13-1) has now held opponents scoreless for 39 consecutive innings, which is a new school record. The record eclipsed the old mark of 32 which was set last season.
Dowagiac has gone six and a half games without giving up a run.
Pitchers Kelly Tomczak and Jenna Stuppy continued their dominance of area hitters on Monday by combining to allow two hits and striking out 25. The pair also issued just two walks.
Tomczak, who in her last start set a new school record for strikeouts with 17, fanned 16 Lady Wildcats on Monday in tossing a one-hitter.
Offensively the Chieftains finished with 17 hits.
Rachel Minikel had four singles and three RBIs to lead the way. Tomczak, Stuppy, Mandy Parish, Kim Luthringer and Rachael Willis each had two hits against Three Rivers in the opener.
In the nightcap, Stuppy allowed one hit and struck out nine.
Dowagiac had 16 more hits in the second game led by Parish, who singled twice, doubled and tripled.
The Chieftains also got two hits apiece from Tomczak, Brianne Reist, Luthringer and Willis.
Dowagiac, ranked sixth in the latest coaches poll, hosts Battle Creek Central today in a Big-16 Conference doubleheader beginning at 4 p.m.
