Jennifer Klutts did all she could Friday but could not keep the Buchanan softball team from dropping its first Lakeland Conference game of the season.
After beating host Cassopolis 6-4 in the first game, the Lady Bucks suffered a 4-3 setback in the nightcap. Buchanan is now 10-6 overall and 5-1 in league play while Cassopolis is 4-6 and 1-1.
Klutts pitched both games for Buchanan and hit a home run in each game. She now has five homers on the year and owns an 8-4 pitching record. Lindsay Colip added a double for the Bucks in the opener.
Emily Larsen also pitched both games for Cassopolis. She is now 3-2 on the season. Larsen doubled in the opening game and hit a triple in the second. Britnie Hulett and Ashley McCoy each doubled for the Rangers in the nightcap.
Cassopolis scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning for their first Lakeland victory.
Buchanan hosts Berrien Springs Tuesday for another league doubleheader.
