Niles baseball back on track

The Niles baseball team ended its six-game losing streak with a sweep of a Southwest Michigan Athletic Conference doubleheader with Battle Creek Central Saturday at Thomas Stadium.
The Vikings held off the comeback-minded Bearcats for a 7-5 win in the first game before clobbering them 10-0 in the second game.
Matt Richardson earned the victory in the first game as he started on the mound and lasted six innings before being relieved by Cory Coquillard who earned the save. Richardson is now 1-1 on the year.
Josh Henry led Niles at the plate in the first game with a double. Kyle Isabel and Kyle Kidwell each added two singles. Casey Hood and Ryne Dowling also singled for the Vikings in the opener.
Adrian Davis earned his first pitching victory in the second game as he went all five innings to boost his record to 1-0.
Dowling paced Niles at the plate in the second game with a single and a double. Coquillard added a pair of singles while Nick Saviano, Mike Peters, Davis, Bonner and Henry each singled once.
Niles, now 7-6 on the season, hosts Benton Harbor on Tuesday for a SMAC West Division doubleheader starting at 4 p.m.
