Niles baseball suffers sixth straight loss

The Niles varsity baseball team suffered its fifth and sixth straight losses Thursday at Lakeshore High School.
The Vikings, which started the season on a five-game winning streak, are now 5-6 after dropping two games to the host Lancers in Southwest Michigan Athletic Conference West Division action. Lakeshore, which is 8-1, edged Niles 3-2 in the opening game and won 4-2 in the second.
John Kessick and Brooks Bonner took the pitching losses for Niles, which hosts Battle Creek Central at noon on Saturday for another doubleheader.
Nick Saviano doubled in the opener for Niles.
The Niles freshmen baseball team suffered a pair of one-run losses against Edwardsburg Thursday.
The Eddies beat Niles 8-7 and 7-6 to drop the Vikings' record to 4-4 on the year.
Mason Stephenson and Nick Etzcorn took the pitching losses for Niles.
Landon Coleman and Will Skalla each had a pair of singles for the Vikings in the first game. Mike Anglin, Jordan Basore and Grant Goodman each added a single.
Nate Parks led Niles at the plate in the second game with two doubles. Drew Donahue had a single and a triple while Stephenson, Peter Brandstatter and Skalla all singled.
