Chieftain JV baseball team gets sweep

The Dowagiac junior varsity baseball team improved to 11-1 on Thursday with a sweep of visiting Benton Harbor.
The Chieftains defeated the Tigers 15-0 in first game and 13-8 in the nightcap.
Scott Wilkinson tossed a one-hitter with five strikeouts as he improved to 3-0 on the season.
Jesse Cox was 3-for-3 with a double and three RBIs. Wilkinson aided his own cause with a 2-for-3 performance with a double and two RBIs. Schuyler File had a double and two RBIs, while David Stuppy went 2-for-2 with a double and three RBIs.
Jeremiah Carmine was 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI. JoAngel Goins was 2-for-2 as Dowagiac finished with 13 hits as a team.
In the second game Rob Duszynski scattered eight hits and struck out 10 Tigers as he improved to 2-1 on the season.
Jeromy Northrop was 2-for-3 with a double, while File doubled and drove in two runs. Cox singled and drove in a run as did Duszynski.
Dowagiac finished with seven hits in the nightcap.
The Chieftains host Three Rivers in non-league play on Monday. The first game is slated to begin at 4 p.m.
JV Softball
The Dowagiac junior varsity softball team improved to 6-0 with a sweep of visiting Berrien Springs Thursday afternoon.
The Chieftains won the opening game, 9-0, and then took the nightcap, 4-1.
In the opening game Ashley Willis struck out 11 in picking up the victory.
In the nightcap, Maureen Pickar struck out 10 Lady Shamrocks.
Pickar also had three hits, including a double, while Lindsay Tyler and Jackie Sayre each had two hits.
Dowagiac returns to action on Monday when it hosts Three Rivers in a non-conference doubleheader. The first game is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m.
