NILES -- The Niles Service League is teaming up with the Niles Daily Star and organizing a food drive for the Niles branch of the Salvation Army.
The food drive will take place Saturday, April 26, between 8 a.m and 2 p.m, Margaret Phares, president-elect of the Niles Service League, said.
She said the Service League does food drives every year, but this time they realized the Salvation Army was in need of help.
A few weeks ago, the Niles Salvation Army's food shelves were almost empty and Salvation Army Captain Floyd Cryderman asked the community to donate food.
Phares said the Salvation Army prefers canned and dry-food products because those products are easy to store.
Household cleaners and paper products, however, will also be welcomed at the food drive, she said.
She hopes the community will take this chance to help out the Salvation Army by donating as much food as possible.
