Vikings sweep Eddies to remain undefeated

The Niles baseball team remained undefeated with a pair of non-conference wins Wednesday afternoon at Edwardsburg.
The Vikings, now 5-0, earned victories of 14-1 and 10-5 over the host Eddies which are 6-3 on the year.
Ryne Dowling earned his first pitching victory of the season for Niles in the first game. He tossed a five-inning two-hitter while Jesse Johnson took the loss for Edwardsburg. Ben Horton relieved Johnson in the fourth inning.
Nick Saviano, Kyle Kidwell and Kyle Isabel each doubled for the Vikings in the opener.
Scott Mellen hit a double for Edwardsburg.
In the second game, Niles sophomore Cory Coquillard earned his first win on the mound. He worked the first five innings before Matt Richardson closed the game. The two gave up eight hits.
Jeff Mortimer took the loss on the mound for Edwardsburg. He was relieved in the fourth inning by Brian Bartz.
John Kessick hit a home run to lead Niles at the plate in the second game.
Casey Hood hit a pair of doubles and Dowling added a double as well.
Niles travels to Portage Central Saturday for a Southwest Michigan Athletic Conference inter-divisional doubleheader starting at noon.
