NILES -- Neil Coulston said he was nervous as he made his way to the Niles skate park at 7 a.m. this morning.
He worried Niles young people, who in large numbers have been spending their spare time at the recently-opened park, did not take him seriously when he warned he would close the park if a growing trash problem continues there.
Coulston, Niles public works director, has made morning trips to the skate park a routine. On Tuesday, he was greeted by a trashy mess there. He took photos of the trash and issued a warning to skateboarders: Clean up after yourself or the park will close.
Turns out, Coulston should never have doubted Niles skateboarders.
Coulston visited the park again on Tuesday evening and chatted with several of the regular skate park users.
