The Niles boys track and field team opened its season with an 84-68 loss to Southwest Michigan Athletic Conference West Division rival St. Joseph Thursday afternoon.
The Vikings were led by Jason Todd who won the 1600 run with a time of 4:59.83 and the 800 run with a time of 2:10.82.
Other event winners for Niles included Ricky Phillips in the 110 hurdles (19.33), Ivery Cross in the 400 dash (54.91), Diamond King in the 300 hurdles (44.73), Karyce Pulliam in the 200 dash (23.0) and James Edwards in the shot put (40-7).
Niles won the 800 relay with a time of 1:36.09.
The Vikings travel to Lakeshore Tuesday afternoon.
