The Brandywine softball team opened its season Thursday afternoon with a pair of wins at South Bend Clay. The Bobcats beat Northridge 1-0 in the first game and beat the host Colonials 10-0 in the second game.
Nicki McGowen earned both pitching victories, giving up just one hit in the first game and two in the second. She struck out a total of 17 batters on the day.
Michelle Shoemaker and Lauren Heyn each had a pair of singles against Northridge. Jessica Keeton led the Bobcats against Clay with a triple and two singles for five RBIs. Heyn added a double and two singles against Clay.
Brandywine, now 2-0, plays in the Penn (Ind.) Tournament on Saturday.

Lady Bucks sweep Bridgman
Buchanan opened its softball season with a sweep of Bridgman in a non-conference doubleheader. The Bucks beat the visiting Bees 6-0 and 6-5.
Jenny Klutts earned both pitching victories, starting the first game and relieving Caryn Dotson in the second. Klutts struck out 10 batters in the firt game and hit a home run in the second game.
Tiffany Griffin hit a double in each game for the Bucks.
Buchanan, now 2-0, travels to Otsego Saturday.
