Weather improves; sports returns

Dowagiac Union High athletes will finally get a taste of competition this week as the weather has cleared and the fields, tracks and courts have become playable.
After having a third straight day canceled by weather on Wednesday, Dowagiac Union High officials said that today's events are cleared for competition.
Dowagiac is set for its season opener in tennis as the Chieftains travel to Paw Paw for a non-conference match beginning at 4 p.m.
The Chieftain track team will open up its season today as it will be facing Big-16 Conference West Division favorite Lakeshore beginning with field events at 4:30 p.m.
The Dowagiac baseball team, which is 5-1 on the season, is scheduled to take on Lakeland Conference powerhouse River Valley today at 4 p.m. in Three Oaks.
River Valley is fresh from a victory over highly regarded Big-16 Conference West Division favorite St. Joseph.
The lone event which will not take place today is the Dowagiac girl's golf match with host South Haven.
Events rescheduled from earlier in the week include Monday night's soccer season opener at Allegan, which has been rescheduled for Tuesday, April 29.
Tuesday's girls' golf match with Niles and Kalamazoo Hackett has been rescheduled for Wednesday, May 14.
The junior varsity baseball and softball games at Coldwater are now scheduled for May 22. The varsity softball and baseball games with Coldwater have been reset for May 22.
Wednesday's tennis match with Lakeshore has been rescheduled for Friday at 4 p.m. Wednesday's soccer match with Lakeshore has been reset for May 7. The junior varsity softball game between Dowagiac and host Buchanan has been moved to April 18.
Friday's soccer match has been canceled. No make up date has been set. The junior varsity softball game with Berrien Springs on Friday has been canceled and will be played on May 9.
With temperatures expected to reach the 60s today through Saturday, it is expected that all scheduled events will take place.
