CASSOPOLIS -- Jonathan Blough of Edwardsburg wasn't home on the day that an intruder entered his home Feb. 20, 2002, on May Street and ransacked it. The intruder fled with an armful of property after tearing everything apart and was sent to prison on Friday morning during a sentencing in Cass County Circuit Court for a conviction of breaking and entering an unoccupied building.
Erik David Flynn, 21, of 30468 County Road 12, Elkhart, Ind. was imposed 24 months to 10 years by Circuit Court Judge Michael E. Dodge.
Dodge recounted that Flynn entered the Blough home which is across the street from Wayne Blough, father of Jonathan. Wayne saw a strange car at Jonathan's house and went over to the house to investigate. Flynn was ransacking the house and "blew right by Blough with an armful of property." He fled and was later apprehended in Indiana.
The offense was committed while Flynn was being adjudicated for another felony in Indiana. Dodge said Flynn was serving two prison terms in Indiana consecutive to one another and concluded he should receive another prison sentence for the crime.
Flynn received credit for 387 days served and was ordered to pay $60 to the Crime Victim's fund and $60 for DNA testing and restitution of $321.50.
