CASSOPOLIS -- After tying 1,200 troop-tribute bows, including those lining Front Street in downtown Dowagiac, "I'm beginning to see yellow ribbons in my sleep," admits Cass County courthouse employee Terrie Tabbert.
But she'll rest and forge on, just as America's military in Iraq must do. The Friend of the Court employee's next project is organizing a sizable Support Our Troops Rally scheduled for 2 p.m. Sunday, April 27, at the grandstand of the Cass County Fairgrounds. Patriotic music will be played in support of the men and women serving in our armed forces, including her son, Marine Jeremie Weber.
Politicians from Cassopolis, Lansing and Washington have been contacted, she said Monday, including invitations extended to Michigan Gov. Jennifer Granholm and U.S. Sens. Carl Levin and Debbie Stabenow.
Speakers are tentatively expected to include U.S. Rep. Fred Upton of St. Joseph, state Sen. Ron Jelinek of Three Oaks, state Reps. Rick Shaffer of Three Rivers, Mary Ann Middaugh of Paw Paw and Neal Nitz of Baroda, attorneys Tom Swisher and Phil Harrison, county Veterans Counselor Fred Leet, VFW commanders and Sheriff Joe Underwood.
Military branches with confirmed representatives include the Marines, Navy, Air Force and Army.
Flags and yellow ribbons will be handed out, a "Support Our Troops" banner will be unfurled and red, white and blue balloons will be launched.
