Albion men’s team blows by Hope College

ALBION -- Competing for the third time in eight days with the wind howling to make it feel like 18 degrees, the Albion College men's track and field team could have bowed to adversity at the Elkin Isaac Track Saturday.
Instead, the Britons turned in solid performances to post an 111.5-42.5 victory over Hope College in a Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association dual meet.
Albion placed first in 13 of the 18 events. Even more impressive, the Britons had the top three place winners in six events.
Juniors Nick Mockeridge (Belleville/Belleville) and Dominic Reid (Albion/Albion) were Albion's top scorers, as each won two running events. Mockeridge topped the fields in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (9:46.6) and 5,000-meter run (15:22). Reid sprinted to victories in the 100 (10.9 seconds) and 200 meters (23.08 seconds).
Junior Nick Morgan (Flint/Northern) and first-year student-athlete Mike Bailey (Lansing/Waverly) each posted 11 points for the Britons. Morgan led the field in the 110-meter hurdles across the finish line with a hand-held time of 15 seconds, and was second in the 400 meters, crossing the finish line in 51.65 seconds. Bailey was the winner in the long jump (20 feet, 9-3/4 inches) and second in the 200 meters (23.10 seconds).
Albion also received victories from junior Taurean Wilson (Albion/Albion) and sophomore Brian Elliott (Royal Oak/Birmingham Brother Rice) on the track. Wilson led the field in the 800 meters, finishing with a time of 1:56.77. Elliott's winning time in the 400-meter hurdles was 58.12 seconds.
In relay action, Albion's 4×100 team posted a winning time of 43.28 seconds.
In field events, Albion swept the top three positions in the long jump, shot put, discus throw, and javelin throw.
Senior Chris Stefanes (Bloomfield Hills/Birmingham Seaholm) and sophomore Ivan Meiring (Quincy/Quincy) each scored six points in the throws. Stefanes turned in the longest throw in the javelin (150 feet, 6 inches) and was third in the discus (132 feet). Meiring took first in the discus (144 feet) and third in the javelin (141 feet, 9 inches).
First-year student-athlete Charles Lott (Flint/Southwestern Academy) popped a winning leap of 42 feet, 4 inches in the triple jump. First-year student-athlete Kyle Robinson (Mulliken/Grand Ledge) had the best throw in the shot put with a mark of 44 feet, 11 inches.
Also placing in two events for Albion were seniors Alex Case (Union City/Union City) in the 400-meter hurdles (second, 1:00.93) and 110-meter hurdles (third, 15.8 seconds), and Brad Stish (Royalton, Minn./Royalton) in the triple jump (second, 40 feet, 9-1/2 inches) and 400-meter dash (third, 52.11 seconds).
Albion's next meet is Friday, April 11, at the Marv Frye Invitational at Ohio Wesleyan University in Delaware, Ohio.
