Feil helps Bethel College to victory

The Bethel College men's and women's track and field teams swept the Goshen College Invitational on Saturday afternoon at Goshen College.
The women scored 315 points followed by Goshen at 114, Grace at 69, and St. Francis at 25 points. Leading the way for the Lady Pilots was Erica Young who won the 100m dash at 12.96, the 200m dash at 13.50, and the long jump at 16-1. Jamie Morris won the 100m hurdles at 16.51 and the 400m hurdles at 1:11. Honey Storlie won the 3,000m steeplechase at 12:24 and the 800m at 2:34. Storlie's time in the steeplechase was good enough for NAIA National qualifying. Other first place finishers for Bethel were Lori Edler in the 400m at 63.78, Nikki Feil in the 1500m at 5:19, Carrie Lawver in the 5,000m at 19:22, Staci Weisser in the triple jump at 34-8, Candi Gooden in the shot put at 35-6, Brandy Granger in the discus at 118-2, Rachael Speicher in the javelin at 115-8, and Alisha Ewing in the high jump at 5-2. The 4x100m team of Nicole Spears, Isis Dixon, Jill Olson, and Young also won their event.
On the men's side, Bethel scored 208 points to 172 for Goshen, 97 for St. Francis, and 73 for Grace. Leading the way was Matt Cunningham who won the 100m at 11.07 and the pole vault at 15-0. Cunningham's pole vault mark qualified him for NAIA Nationals. Other winners were Andy Holderead in the 1500m at 4:20, Mark Davidhizer in the 5,000m at 16:10, Kyle Amor in the long jump at 20-6, Dan Geans in the javelin at 161-9, and Dana Scifres in the high jump at 6-4. Bethel's 4x400m team of Thomas Jackson, Sheldon Smith, Nick Dunn, and Holderead also won their event.
Also, Dunn's time of 55.22 in the 400m hurdles was a NAIA National qualifying time.
The Pilots will next compete at the Manchester College Invitational next Saturday, April 5.
