Edwardsburg woman killed on U.S. 12

A 28-year-old Edwardsburg woman was killed on U.S. Highway 12 when she lost control of her vehicle on the slippery road and hit a snow plow Monday.
Ambrosia Starr Foreman was pronounced dead at Memorial Hospital in South Bend; her 3-year-old son, Camden Foreman, also of Edwardsburg, was severely injured.
The Michigan State Police reported the crash took place at U.S. Highway 12 at Leet Road in Milton Township, Cass County at approximately 3:25 p.m.
An eastbound passenger vehicle, Foreman’s Mercury mini-van, lost control on the slippery road surface and crossed the centerline of the roadway, impacting a Michigan Department of Transportation snow plow truck nearly head on.
The MDOT truck, driven by Stephen Axline, 36, of Niles was westbound on U.S. Highway 12 applying salt to the slippery road surface at the time of the crash.
Both Foreman and her son were wearing appropriate restraint devices, with the 3-year-old in a car seat in the center, right seat of the vehicle.
Foreman suffered serious injuries during the crash; the 3 year old was less severely injured. Both mother and son were transported to Memorial Hospital of South Bend for treatment. Foreman was pronounced dead at Memorial Hospital in South Bend.
Axline, who is assigned to the Niles MDOT garage, was uninjured.
The Michigan State Police were assisted at the scene by Edwardsburg/Ontwa Twp Fire Department; Cass County Sheriff’s Department, Edwardsburg; Southwestern Michigan Community Ambulance Service; and the Michigan State Police 5th District Crash Reconstruction Unit Paw Paw.
The Michigan State Police Niles Posts urges drivers to remain vigilant while driving during winter temperatures near freezing and below. Snow melt may freeze to the roadway and become ice. During winter driving conditions, allow extra time to reach a destination, leave early, leave extra following distance between vehicles and reduce speed.
