The Dowagiac City Council approved the Dowagiac homecoming parade and set trick-or-treat hours at its meeting Monday night.

The council approved a change in the route for Friday’s homecoming parade in advance of the Dowagiac-Coloma football game at Chris Taylor Alumni Field.

The parade will kick off from the high school parking lot at 5:30 p.m.

The route will take the parade east on Green Street near the First United Methodist Church to West Wayne Street where it will head east. The parade will then turn onto Orchard Street and head south.

From there the parade will turn on to Spruce Street and head for Chris Taylor-Alumni Field.

Trick-or-Treat hours have been set for Thursday, Oct. 31 from 6 to 7 p.m. in the City of Dowagiac.

The council also approved the Borgess Tree of Love lighting ceremony Dec. 4.

In other items:

• The council re-appointed Edward Booth and James Sayer to the Zoning Board of Appeals for a term expiring October 2016

• Authorized the submission of the 2013 Biennial Energy Optimization plan

• Approved the conditional transfer of land from Pokagon Township to the City of Dowagiac for property owned by Dan Leverson located at 56271 M-51 South

• Set a public hearing for Oct. 28 at 7 p.m. to receive public comment on the proposed Wastewater Treatment Plant improvement project

• Authorized an interfund loan from the Electric Fund to the Solid Waste Fund

• Authorized an amendment to the city’s classification and compensation system

• Authorized budget amendments to the fiscal year 2012-13 through the period of Sept. 30.

• Directed the city treasurer to play bills ($719,733.38), payroll ($171,462.26) for a total of $891,195.64
