CASSOPOLIS — A meth-making, bomb-possessing Edwardsburg man who also had over 20 firearms at the ready is on his way to prison.

A Cass County jury found Scott Blaisdell, 54, guilty of 14 criminal counts on Wednesday in Cass County Circuit Court.

“We are not going to put up with such a volatile mix in our community,” Prosecutor Victor Fitz said. “Mr. Blaisdell has earned his ticket to the joint.”

Trial testimony indicated that in February, detectives from the Cass County Drug Enforcement Team executed a search warrant at the defendant’s home.

In the course of the search, detectives found a methamphetamine laboratory as well as numerous components commonly used in the manufacture of methamphetamine throughout the home and the garage.

While opening a safe in the defendant’s guest bedroom, detectives located an improvised explosive device. With the assistance of the Berrien County Bomb Squad, the explosive device was removed from the property and the situation safely diffused.

In addition, detectives located more than 20 firearms readily accessible and in close proximity to the lab, as well as a marijuana plant and bag of processed marijuana.

Blaisdell did not testify and did not present any witnesses.

The jury took approximately 1.5 hours to find Blaisdell guilty of 13 felonies including, possession of a bomb, operating a laboratory involving a firearm/harmful device and several other drug and weapon charges.

The jury found him not guilty of possession of a bomb with unlawful intent and a count of felony firearm.

His felony firearm convictions require a mandatory two years in prison.

Consecutive to the felony firearm convictions, the defendant is also facing up to 25 years in prison on the other guilty verdicts.

Blaisdell was living at 70641 Five Points Road, Edwardsburg, at the time of the crime.

Sentencing is scheduled for May 24 in front of Judge Michael Dodge.
