Area track stars shine at Rotary Meet

ST. JOSEPH — Niles’ Connor Amberg and Joe Avance, along with Brandywine’s Andrew Duckett turned in big nights at the annual Benton Harbor-St. Joseph Rotary Track Meet at St. Joseph High School Friday night.

Amberg and Duckett were triple winners in the meet that features the top track runners from throughout southwest lower Michigan.

Duckett swept the 110- and 300-meter hurdles with times of 14.97 and 39.94, while he was also a member of the Bobcats’ winning 1,600-meter relay team.

That team also consisted of Andrew Boocher, Matt Kline and Dayan Schau and ran a time of 3:36.60.

Amberg won the 200-meters with a time of 23.23. He was a member of the Vikings’ winning 400- and 800-meter relay teams that ran times of 45.04 and 1:32.96 respectively.

The 400-meter team also consisted of Joe Avance, Cameron Haines and Elijah Thompson. Avance, Josh Buckingham and Thompson made up the rest of the 800-meter squad.

Avance also won the long jump with a leap of 21-feet.

Brandywine’s Emily Pedzinski (Brandywine) and Lakeshore’s Hannah Bredeweg tied for first in the high jump with a height of 4-7.
