Niles Nitro finish second at Nappanee tourney

NAPPANEE, Ind. — The Niles Nitro finished second at the Nappanee Tournament held recently.

Summit City of Fort Wayne, Ind. defeated the Nitro 13-3 in the championship gmae.

On its way to the title game, Niles lost to the Elkhart Blaze 9-6, defeated the Indiana Explosion 6-5, defeated the Huntington Hurricanes 7-1, defeated J-Shock from Jimtown, Ind. 2-1 and defeated Bremen 11-3.

“This is the best we’ve played all-around this year,” Nitro manager Rick McKeel said. “We beat some really good teams.”

Jordan Rank had a pair of singles for Niles and two RBIs, while Olivia Jordan, Tala Gentry, Megan McKeel and Morgan Richer all had hits.

McKeel took the loss for the Nitro.

Niles scored a last inning come-from-behind victory over the Explosion.

Kierra Fillwock had a pair of hits. McKeel and Rank also singled.

Gentry earned the victory.

Rank had two hits and an RBI, while Gentry finished with two hits and two RBIs. Jordan, McKeel, Amelia Ernsberger, Fillwock and Richer also had hits.

McKeel was credited with the victory.

Richer led the way with two hits for the Nitro, which also got singles from Jordan, Gentry, Kylee Myer and Maggie Hoff.

Gentry was the winning pitcher.

Richer led the team with two hits. Jordan, Ernsberger, Fillwock, McKeel and Courtney Ankrapp each added a single.

McKeel earned the victory in the circle.
