Dowagiac qualifies 16 for state championships

BATTLE CREEK — The Dowagiac Wrestling Club competed in the MYWAY Southwest Regional Championships hosted by Battle Creek Lakeview High School.

Dowagiac had six champions as Carson White, Rowan Bradford, Kaiden Reith, Gavin Schoff, Dylan Elmore and Taven Livingston brought home gold medals.

During the tournament, Bradford picked up his 100th career victory.

Finishing second were Rooney Olmedo and Roman Paredes. Placing third were Oliver Olmedo, Alan Wegner, Jacob Villegas, Hunter Ottinger, and Israel Villegas.

Fourth-place finishers were Skyler Vincek and Cameron White.

The top four wrestlers in each weight class advance to the MYWAY state finals, which will be March 23-24 at Wings Stadium in Kalamazoo.

Placing fifth for Dowagiac were Brody Brewer, Marcus Ottinger and Cody White.

Jenna Bradford will represent Dowagiac at the girl’s state tournament.

According to the wrestling club coaching staff, it is believed that 2018 is the first time all of the competitors earned a medal at the regional.
