Stuart Coulston wins TCP Swiger scholarship

Twin City Players (TCP) awarded a $1,000 Brian Swiger Memorial Scholarship to 2013 Niles graduate Stuart Coulston, who has also appeared twice with Four Flags Players.

For the first time, TCP presented $500 scholarships to two additional Berrien County students, Mitchell Conrad of Michigan Lutheran High School and John Golob of Lake Michigan Catholic High School.

Throughout elementary and high school, Coulston gained experience on and offstage with TCP.

He was a member of National Honor Society (NHS) who participated in soccer, track and student council.

Stuart, son of David and Susan Coulston, said he will be attending Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, to study business marketing.

Conrad pursued his interest in music by taking classes at Lake Michigan College. He provided music and gymnastic instruction, was a member of student council and made honor roll and dean’s list.

Golob was active in TCP for many years, wearing many different hats on and offstage.

He was a member of his high school Drama Club, Robotics Club and NHS. Golob enjoyed cross country and was working on becoming an Eagle Scout.

TCP, one of the oldest, continuously operating community theaters in Michigan, established

the scholarship in 1996 in memory of former member Brian Swiger.

Scholarships are earmarked for seniors graduating from Berrien County high schools who demonstrate a strong interest in theater-related activities during their academic careers, according to Christine Aranyos, marketing manager.

Winners, however, can use award money to pursue any field of study at any accredited college, university, trade school or arts education institution.

The scholarship, which students apply for in March, is awarded based upon school and community activities, TCP involvement, grade point average of 2.0 or better and a short essay.

Formed in 1932, the volunteer-based, non-profit organization offers live theater at its playhouse at 600 W. Glenlord Rd., St. Joseph.

New members are always welcome. Call (269) 429-0400 or visit twincityplayers.org.
