Tourney beings Thursday for Chiefs

With the regular season and the league tournaments behind them, area wrestling teams start the Michigan High School Athletic Association state tournament this week.

Divisions 2 and 4 will wrestle Wednesday night at sites throughout the area, while Divisions 1 and 3 will wrestle Thursday night.

Division 3

Dowagiac and Buchanan will join host Berrien Springs and Bridgman/New Buffalo Thursday night for the Division 3 Team District Tournament.

Wrestling will begin at 6 p.m. with the Chieftains squaring off against the Shamrocks and the Bucks facing Bridgman/New Buffalo.

The finals will be held approximately 10 minutes following the completion of the last semifinal.

Division 2

Edwardsburg will play host to Niles, Sturgis and Three Rivers Wednesday evening.

In the opening round, Edwardsburg will face Three Rivers, while Niles will take on Sturgis.

Wrestling begins at 6 p.m. The finals will be 10 minutes after the completion of the last semifinal.

Division 4

Brandywine will have to wait a round in the Division 4 tournament as the Bobcats received a bye in this three-team district.

Eau Claire and host River Valley will wrestle at 6 p.m. with the winner to take on Brandywine in the finals, approximately 10 minutes after the completion of the semifinal match.

Cassopolis must travel to White Pigeon for its district tournament.

The Rangers face White Pigeon in another three-team district at 6 p.m.

The winner faces Constantine in the championship match.
