Mattawan eliminates Niles 5-1

Nicholas King scored a hat trick and Jason Olinger added a pair of goals as visiting Mattawan defeated Niles 5-1 in the opening round of the Division 2 District Soccer Tournament Tuesday.

Mattawan advances to face Edwardsburg Thursday night in Sturgis.

The Wildcats grabbed a 2-1 halftime lead at Olinger and King sandwiched a Niles goal.

Olinger opened the scoring in the fourth minute and King capped the first half scoring in the 21st minute.

In between, Dylan Fillwock scored the lone goal for the Vikings in the 11th minute to knot the score temporarily at 1-1.

King scored the first and third goals of the second half — his first in the 54th minute and the other in the 65th minute.

Olinger scored in between in the 60th minute.
