It took less than an hour for the Brandywine volleyball team to steamrolled Watervliet and capture its second Class C District championship in the last three years Thursday night.

The Bobcats took advantage of a Panther team that looked tired after playing a pair of five-set matches against Eau Claire and New Buffalo to advance to the final.

Brandywine won 25-5, 25-13 and 25-13 to advance to regional action Tuesday night in Bloomingdale against No. 2-ranked Schoolcraft.

“We knew as we went through the district our most challenging games were in the beginning,” Brandywine coach Carrie Bidwell said. “Cass was a big game for us and we knew we had to get over that hurdle to go far in districts.”

The Bobcats dominated at the net, using both their height advantage and their speed to do in the Panthers.

Watervliet after being blown out in the first set, kept it close early in sets two and three, but were never able to mount any serious challenge for Brandywine.

“Sydney Carlson was amazing for us tonight,” Bidwell said. “We had high expectations for her this season and she started out kind of slow for us at the beginning of the season. She was slow to start and great to end and I’m excited to be able to take that to regionals.”

Carlson finished with seven kills, while Olivia DePriest led the team with 10 kills and two blocks. Makena Bowen also finished with seven kills.

Abbey Cole had eight digs and four aces for the Bobcats. Emily Erwin ended the night with 24 assists.
