Mac Elliott to seek re-election to county board

BUCHANAN — R. McKinley “Mac” Elliott will seek re-election to his Berrien County Commissioner 11tth District post, he announced Monday.

District 11 includes the city of Buchanan, the townships of Buchanan and Bertrand and the village of Berrien Springs and part of Oronoko Township.

Elliott, a Buchanan Republican, served as a commissioner from 1985 through 1994 before rejoining the board in 2010. In his first stint on the board, Elliott served as the chairperson for two years and vice chairman four years.

As chairperson, he worked to make Silver Beach a county park and started strategic planning for county government. He also helped launch the reengineering of county data, computer and office systems.

Elliott is an attorney practicing in Michigan and Indiana with offices located in Niles. Holding a law degree from Notre Dame, he has provided legal counsel to cities and towns in southwest Michigan and northern Indiana.

Elliott has served as director of the Berrien County Economic Development Commission, a member of the Michigan Gateway Community Foundation and the McCoy Creek Watershed Committee.

Elliott and his wife, Marta, and their three children live in Buchanan.
