For the past 37 years, the stars of the national motocross touring series have been making a stop in Buchanan at one of the top tracks in the United States.

This Fourth of July weekend will be no exception as the Lucas Oil Motocross Championship sanctioned by AMA Pro Racing will return to the Red Bud.

The top drivers in the series will compete in the 38th annual Lucas Oil Pro Motocross National Saturday and Sunday. The event will be broadcast live on Fuel TV and the NBC Sports Network.

Red Bud marks the start of the second half of the season for the riders.

The last time they competed, June 16 at Budds Creek in Maryland, points leader (450 Class) Ryan Dungey remained on his current hot streak. Dungey, who rides for Red Bull KTM, swept the motos and extended his winning streak to six motos and his third consecutive overall victory.

The win was the 17th of Dungey’s career and extended his points lead to 54 over Mike Alessi and Jake Weimer, who are locked in a battle for second place. Alessi and Weimer are separated by just three points as they arrive in Buchanan.

Holly Michigan’s Broc Tickle is currently sixth in the overall standings.

Blake Baggett leads the 250 Class by 13 points. He is one of two riders this season to win a pair of races. He leads Justin Barcia and Eli Tomac. Barcia and Tomac are separated by just nine points.

Jessica Patterson continues to lead the women’s WMX Class.

The women return to action this weekend at Red Bud after a week off. Patterson holds a 33-point lead over runner-up Tarah Gieger.

Last year at the Red Bud National, Michigan native Ashley Fiolek took her Team Honda Muscle Mike bike to a sweep of the two motos. Fiolek missed the last event due to injury, but is expected to be back in action this weekend.

The Red Bud National is the second of back-to-back NBC coverage.

Saturday’s coverage will begin with the first moto of both the 450 and 250 classes and can be seen live on Fuel TV beginning at 1 p.m. Live second moto coverage of the 250 Class can be seen live on the NBC Sports Network at 4 p.m.

The final moto of the 450 Class will be aired Sunday at 1:30 p.m. on NBC.

Tickets for all remaining rounds of the 2012 Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship can be found at www.allisports.com.
