Fourth quarter surge lifts Freemont past Vikings

COLDWATER – The Niles girls basketball team came up a bit short in its bid to pick up a victory Friday afternoon at the Coldwater Holiday Tournament.

The Vikings trailed 12-7 after one quarter, but were able to cut the lead to 28-24 heading into the fourth quarter by playing even with Freemont (Ind.) in the second and outscoring it 7-4 in the third quarter.

Freemont held a 12-9 advantage in the scoring column in the final period and pulled away to a 40-33 victory that left Niles still searching for that elusive first victory of the season.

Libby Moody led the Vikings with 14 points. Niles also got six points from Elyse Zimmerman.

Mirana White had a game-high 18 points for Freemont.
