First day of school Sept. 7

The first day of school for students attending the Dowagiac Union Schools for the 2010-2011 school year is Tuesday, Sept. 7.

THE FIRST DAY WILL BE A FULL DAY OF SCHOOL.

Transportation will be provided for all bus students EXCEPT KINDERGARTEN.

Parents are responsible for kindergarten transportation on the FIRST DAY ONLY.

Kindergarten parents will be notified regarding the first day prior to school.

You will be receiving a post card in the mail indicating your student’s routing information. Post cards will be mailed Friday, Aug. 27.

If you do not receive a post card, please call the transportation department at 782-4482 for the information.

Union High School

Registration for new students is from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the guidance office at Union High. Counselors will not be making changes to previously existing schedules at this time. Parents/guardians of new students must accompany student(s) to register and are asked to bring the student’s birth certificate, immunization record and a copy of the last report card. High School Freshmen Orientation will be held Thursday, Sept. 2, from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., in the DUHS cafeteria. Any freshman unable to attend should contact the high school office at 782-4420.

Dowagiac Middle School

Dowagiac Middle School sixth grade student BOOT CAMP is today, Aug. 24, from 10 a.m.-12:30 p.m.,

Lunch will be provided for students.

The counseling office will be open from 8 a.m. to noon and from 1 to 3 p.m. The date for the annual sixth grade student orientation (and new to our district seventh and eighth graders) is Monday, Aug. 30, at 7 p.m.

Matt Severin and Mike Frazier will cover school procedures, academics and extra-curricular activity opportunities at that time. Sixth graders along with the new seventh and eighth graders will receive their schedules that night. Returning seventh and eighth grade students will pick their schedules up the first day of school. Parents may call the school at 782-4440 if they have questions.

All elementary building offices are open and will accept new student registrations between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m. Parents should bring the child’s birth certificate and proof of immunization with them.  Parents unsure of the school their child will attend may call district administrative offices at 782-4400.
