Plans for Cassopolis Fall Fest coming together

Plans for the inaugural Cassopolis Fall Fest are coming together, but there is still plenty of work to do and the village is in need of volunteers.

Ben Anderson, who is the superintendent of the Department of Works, and Monica Kennedy, who is the Cass County clerk/register of deeds, are spearheading the committee for the festival, which will take place in the Village Hall parking lot and Rowland Street Oct. 19.

The festival will run from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m.

At the meeting Tuesday night, citizens said they would like to see the festival expand to include the business district along Broadway Street as far down as the Pioneer Log Cabin Museum and The Twirl.

The Log Cabin Museum will be open Oct. 19 from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. and will serve cider and donuts.

According to Anderson, there have been six vendors secured for the Fall Festival, but there is plenty of room for more. Vendors may purchase an 8×20-foot space for $20.

Deadline for vendors has been set for Oct. 1. They may contact Anderson at village hall or by calling 445-8648.

Among the things discussed for the festival Tuesday were the cornhole tournament, which will be held at the Cassopolis V.F.W.

Citizens suggested having local artists, including those from Ross Beatty Jr./Sr. High School take part in the event as well as holding a chili cook-off.

Anderson and Kennedy are still looking for volunteers to help out the day of the festival as well as sponsors for the event.

The village already has received an anonymous $2,000 donation to help defray costs.

Anyone wishing to help out, become a sponsor or provide prizes for various contests may contact Anderson at the village hall.
