Lioness Club gives back to community

The Edwardsburg Lionesses Club met Oct. 9 at Ontwa Baptist Church. There were 15 present to celebrate our 58th year as a Lioness Club. Plans were finalized for the 2012 Fall Bake Sale and Craft Sale at the Our Lady of the Lake Bazaar on Nov. 3.

The requirements to join the Lioness Club have changed over the years. When it first started you had to be the wife of a Lion member; now it is open to all women of the community.

Our mission statement is: “To enjoy fun and friendship with like-minded individuals, while serving the needs of the local community and wider world.”

Some of its causes include: Leader Dogs for the Blind, Michigan Eye Bank, Edwardsburg Food Bank, hats and mittens for local elementary schools, library fund, Camp Chris, domestic assault shelter, sponsoring the American Red Cross blood drive, Memorial Day Festival activities, adopt a family at Christmas, donate used eye glasses, Uptown Improvement and Secretary of State “Buddy Day.”

It will sponsor the December American Red Cross blood drive at the American Legion.

Each meeting, the club collects toiletry items for the food pantry.

The group meets the second Tuesday of each month at 7 p.m. at the Ontwa Baptist Church.

Officers are; president, Dawn Schlamersdorf, vice president, Lorie Bowers; secretary, Caroline Mitchell; and treasurer, Meryl Christensen.
