‘Discover Winter’ at Lawless Park Jan. 12

CASSOPOLIS — Considered by many to be the “hidden gem” of Cass County’s park system, Dr. T.K. Lawless Park is home to seven miles of hiking trails with five miles being groomed for cross-country skiing. These trails are for users of all abilities and travel through some of the most scenic countryside of southwest Michigan.

The parks department also makes its 10 miles of mountain bike trails available for those who like to enjoy the splendor of winter on snowshoes.

Located on Monkey Run Street, five miles west of Jones, this 820-acre park has long been a winter wonderland for residents of Cass County and surrounding areas.

Sponsored by Friends of the Cass County Parks, Discover Winter Nights at Dr. T.K. Lawless Park  runs from to 9 p.m. every Saturday, beginning Jan. 12 through Feb. 9, weather permitting.

This winter event features a lighted tubing hill (tubes provided or bring your own), and three miles of lighted cross-country ski trails.  A warming fire and refreshments will be available for those wishing for a more relaxed atmosphere with family and friends.

Fees include a $2 entrance fee and an additional $2 to take a  horse-drawn wagon.

For the second year, the parks department is offering winter shelter rental opportunities for those looking for a unique place to hold a birthday party or family event.

For more information or snow conditions, call Cass County Parks and Recreation at (269) 445-4456 or email Director Scott Wyman at scottwy@cassco.org.
