CASSOPOLIS —Anthony Christian could be a poster child for the addictive power of methamphetamine.
Despite being out on bail after pleading guilty to a meth-related charge in April, the 42-year-old Edwardsburg man couldn’t keep away from the drug.
Police caught Christian, and two others, with meth at an Edwardsburg residence a little more than a week after Christian pleaded guilty to the earlier meth charge.
Cass County Circuit Court Judge Michael Dodge sentenced Christian Friday to five years in the Michigan Department of Corrections for meth-related offenses resulting from the second time he was caught.
As for charges from the earlier incident, Dodge sentenced Christian to 51 months in prison Friday.
“It does demonstrate how extremely addictive methamphetamine can be,” Dodge said.
“Even pending serious felony charges you couldn’t stay away from it.”
Dodge ordered Christian to serve both sentences concurrently, although he had the power to make sentences consecutive.
Christian had struck a plea deal with the prosecution for concurrent sentences, while wiping out his status as a habitual offender in the second offense.
Christian is credited with 74 days served.
