A fundraiser will be held April 14 for the family of Heather Bachman, a Buchanan native who was diagnosed with breast cancer in January.

The fundraiser — put on by friends of the Bachman family — takes the form of a pancake breakfast from 7 to 11 a.m. at the Buchanan American Legion.

The breakfast will include pancakes, waffles, sausage, juice, coffee and milk. The cost is a donation to help the Bachmans with expenses related to cancer treatment.

For those who can’t attend, donations can be made by calling Pam Aviles at (269) 695-5120.

Bachman worked for several years as a bus driver for Buchanan Community Schools. She currently works at Niles Precision. Her husband, Mark, is foreman of Buchanan’s water department. He’s worked there 21 years.

The Bachmans have been married for seven years and have two daughters, both of whom go to Buchanan schools.

Mark said Heather had surgery in February and is about to start chemotherapy treatment.

“Her cancer doctor told us once this is over she’ll be fine,” he said.

Mark said the community has done a lot to help them through this difficult time.

“Everybody been great. We are blessed to have so many friend and loved ones,” he said. “Someone is always constantly trying to help with the kids or taking her to doctors appointments so I could come back to work. You can’t ask for a better community than this.”

The Buchanan American Legion is located at 403 E. Front St., Buchanan.
