Brandywine Rotary Interact Club applauded

The Niles-Buchanan Rotary Club welcomed members of the community’s only student-run Rotary Interact Club with open arms during Monday’s noon luncheon at Riverfront Cafe.

“This is a big day for our club, and I think we need to celebrate this,” said Kim Wooden, N-B Rotary Club president.

Rotary Interact is Rotary International’s service club for people ages 12 to 18. Brandywine’s Interact Club is sponsored by the N-B Rotary Club, which also provides support and guidance for the group. The club also received financial support from United Way of Southwest Michigan.

Interact President Alexandria Woods thanked N-B Rotary Club for its support after both clubs mingled during lunch.

“I am really excited for the new year and all the things we can do in the community,” Woods said.

Brandywine’s Interact Club has around 15 members so far. Alison Gamble is the club’s vice president, while Jessy Cooper is acting as secretary, Rachel Gipson treasurer, Chris Ludwig director and Jessica Jorgensen director.

The club, which meets twice a month, will hold its first regular meeting Tuesday.

The club is also responsible for completing at least two service projects a year — one domestic and one international.

Woods said the club hasn’t decided on its projects yet.

Niles Rotarian Robert Habicht serves as the club’s liaison, while Brandywine math teacher Judith Harrison is the club’s faculty advisor.

Woods said they are accepting new members to the club.
