‘Most wanted’ sex offender caught

A Berrien County man considered to be one of the county’s “most wanted” sex offenders was arrested today on warrants for failure to register as a sex offender and aggravated domestic assault.

Dion Martell Bell, 28, of Benton Harbor, was taken into custody at 10 a.m. in Benton Harbor by troopers from the Michigan State Police Niles Post, the Fugitive Team and U.S. Marshall’s Service, according to an MSP news release.

The Berrien County Prosecutor’s Office issued warrants for Bell in July of 2010 after he failed to comply with Michigan Sex Offender Registration Act. A recent warrant was authorized for domestic violence, which led to the community taking action.

Troopers received a tip that Bell could be found a residence in the 1100 block of Highland Avenue in Benton Harbor. Officers responded to the home and located Bell hiding.

Bell is currently lodged in the Berrien County Jail pending arraignment on both charges.
