I would like to see more regular people run for office. But how? Lets say you have an established job, can you leave for 2 or 4 years and then come back? Probably not. Conservatives in our area are stuck with Levin and Stabenow, Stabenow is so inept if you havent heard of her I wouldnt be surprised.Levin and Stabenow are both typical Detroit liberals. If you want to live the Liberal Eutopia go to Detroit and see how its working out. Detroit is a dump. And then we have Fred Upton, our Republican Congressman. In my opinion Fred votes against Liberal bills that he knows will pass without him, but he likes. He is a Cash for Clunkers man, and I believe he is on the board that oversees the automotive bailouts. He needs to go. He has treaded water as far as Im concerned. We need somebody to replace Fred that will be a bull dog and not worry about re-election. As far as our Senators go, we are SOL.

That Jill Gates is quite a hoot. Racist as the day is long, but still funny none the less. Say Jill, how is it that you feel that you are more entitled to be here and have right than your "injun" counterparts? They were here first you know. It's hard to "discover" land with human beings standing on it!

SHAME ON YOU NILES DAILY STAR!!! How could you allow a racial slur to be printed on this forum. Jill Gates used a slur for the Amerian Indian people and you let it be posted. I know it never would have been tolerated against African Americans, Asians, etc. I apologize to you Sam...not only for the abundant ignorance and intolerance of Jill...but also for the apparent ignorance of the local paper. I for one appreciate and thank you for your service to our country. As for Jill...I can only hope and pray (to her God or someone elses) that she has no children so that her hate, intolerance, and stupidity will truly die with her and not be passed on to another generation. And please, please, please learn some spelling and grammar...again just advertising your ignorance. Great full..??? Mercy less..??? What a dolt.

Rick- lets try this...I will give you a few simple questions and you answer them one by one. Here goes: What do you think of the upcoming 13-38% energy increases we will see when the cap and trade bill gets passed? You mentioned Bush lied about WMD's....what are you basing that on? Do you have a link to anything that might back up your claim? keep in mind that being wrong is not the same as lying. And finally....when we tax a business......like say Coke or Pepsi....where do they get the money to pay the tax? There! Three fairly simple questions that will require YOUR THOUGHTS.

So Rick, from what I gather you really have no plan or direction, you simply want these "right wingers" gone. You bash everyone with an opposing view and offer none of your own. You bash others for using "talking points" and yet you offer not one original thought and anything I could charachtarize as one of your original comments is incoherent at best. You have been challenged to a friendly debat but you declined due to the fact that you are "autistic not stupid". As we pull out of Iraqi cities while under the leadership of a new president you are still talking about missing WMD's. You call Bush a liar and state it as fact, yet many here give very reasonble counterpoints showing he probably didnt lie....only used poor judgement or was given poor data...and yet you plow ahead SAYING THE SAME THING OVER AND OVER. What do you hope to accomplish by doing that? Where is it going? Are you afraid to enter into an intelligent dicussion about ANYTHING? Or do you simply bash people? Give us YOUR thoughts about things rather than telling us how much you hate our thoughts.....at least we have thoughts.

Rick- No where in your rambling incoherent responce did you come close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. We are all dumber for having read it.

Leftists never cease to amaze. If a conservative observed that the sky was blue it would be a lie, but all that aside, it is to be blessed to live in a country where the discourse between both the left and right can occur without much of the rancor that is seen in other parts of the world. Our liberals and conservatives by and large do not kill one another over their differences in views. While there are various views and stations of life represented here, I can say without a doubt that each person has both concern for the direction of the country and of the locality. I would have to believe that all are contributors in some way to the community they live in, and intend to leave this earth a little better than when they came. The biggest observation that I can make though is that through the internet we can become vocal citizens again. Each of us is free to express whatever thoughts that we see fit to and the only thing that we must deal with is the possibility of someone rebutting an argument, or being called a name or two. With that in mind, I would wish everyone a great Independence Day. Especially to those who either do or have served their country or communities. You have earned it.

bill if you actually read my comment on this jill woman you would see that it is a snide and snarky insult cloaked in genitility. i have nothing but contempt for whomever wrote this trite tripe be they left or right. they are an agent provocateur. btw if you don't like what i write don't read it. you have retreated to the last stronghold of the bully without a point. just insult everything about the person just because you can't be not right. i am so tired of the apple and coconut comparisions. just because you claim two things are the same does not make it so. i have made it perfectly clear i observe things from a far different angle. i am limited by the mere use of words to express my true opinions and would probably be able to make my point clearer using interprative dance to show tunes. we are in a paradigm shift. i can see it. we are at the cusp of the future and the past is going to be discarded as the past. logic and fact is going to take over from the supernatural. because i say so isn't going to cut it anymore.----

nilesinians, nilesilians, nilesanites. what is it that people from niles are called? although i would call some nilesaliens (people that post and all i can think of is what planet are you from) i have no idea what we call ourselves as residents of this fair city and i have lived here for almost 20 years.-----there is something that i really like about obama. he does not make straw man arguments like bush and use the "some people". when obama says some people he's got a list of names that immediately comes to the mind of the listener.--wal-mart is getting behind the insurance thingy. have we gone from what is good for general motors is good for america to what is good for wal-mart is good for america? while i appreciate the wider lanes and such i am there for the 5 dollar dvd bin and would really like it back. i doubt the riche are going to mind it. it gives them the opportunity to observe the hoi polloi and their interactions groveling for bargains.

from the glenn beck show on the telivision lookity box: BECK: Yes, sir. OK. So you have seen this. Do you really, honestly believe that we have come to a place to where those very senior people in the highest offices of the land, Congress and the White House, really will not do the right thing in the end, that they won't see the error of their ways? SCHEUER: No, sir, they will not. Not -- the only chance we have as a country right now is for Osama bin Laden to deploy and detonate a major weapon in the United States. Because it's going to take a grassroots, bottom-up pressure, because these politicians prize their office, prize the praise of the media and the Europeans. Only -- it's an absurd situation. Again, only Osama can execute an attack which will force Americans to demand that their government protect them effectively, consistently, and with as much violence as necessary. BECK: Which is why I was thinking this weekend if I were him, that would be the last thing I would do right now. SCHEUER: Absolutely. -------they are fifth columnists and anyone who watches and agrees with the likes of them is a fifth columnist.--jenny, put that hammer down, i promise i am not emailing maria, i just met a girl named maria... can't wait for sanford the musical. until next week nilesinians. and yes, that really is the way my mind operates. better than being a mundane. jill sounds like she has read gone with the wind. and yes the use of the word watermelon in her paragraph was racist and it was intended to be so but with just enough to claim innocence, like i didn't know they used to call affluent african americans "uppity". btw i am on nobodies side. actually voted for reagan the second time, would have loved john anderson as president. dukakis? give me a break. but, the gop was slimy as usual. from the undereducated masses of the base arise the new shining jewels of the party of God.

FYI Back then if You didn't have a job, or a paid receipt for a place to stay, You were a vagrant, and went to the chain gang for up to 6 years. We didn't have any Hippie Hitch hikers, Hobo's or tramps. If you didn't belong, don't get caught after dark in our towns, villages, and cities. which kept crime to a minimum,

when I was a little girl in the South, both the White schools, and the Coloreds Schools started each day with both a prayer, and the pledge of allegiance. We had no school breakfasts, or lunches, pre schools, special education, tutors, or DEA, union Teachers, nor no child left behind. When pupils failed the failed. A school principal could fire teachers anytime they wanted too, no kindergarten teachers. People feared the County or Parish sheriffs, and our prisons used the strap to keep prisoners in line, the Hung a lot of people, and put some in old sparky. We didn't pray to the Jew God, nor the Scientology God but the real Christian God. Fear kept a lot of people in line back then. We had no welfare , food stamps, unemployment, nor Work mans Compensation Insurance. If You didn't work, You starved, and the fear didn't hurt anyone. the Government didn't tell business how to do their business. life was a lot slower, but peaceful and liveable. no minimum wage laws, or immigration agents taking your best workers away. then the Yankees came and destroyed the south.

I have written on this forum before and feel this needs to be addressed: My step-daughter is married to one of your business owners in Dowagiac. (NOT DOWN TOWN) Your either in the "CLICK" or out. There is no help given by the city but the collection plate for the city is passed when they need something. Not all of the business's down town belong to that click either. They try to keep low profile so they just can try to survive at all. Your Town is on the bottom and filled with lie's and distrust and extremely poor leadership coming from your City goverment. I subscribe to your local paper and am amazed at the action's of your town leaders. They have the attitude of rules mean nothing to them and they are doing what they want and whenever because it is Their town and the rest of you better move out if you don't like it.You have no town pride by the business owners or not even a sign to welcome people. You have a very pretty city hall building filled with people that must sit there and collect big wages and not even think for themselves and are told what to say and do. So Sad. The way people have moved out the money will stop soon and more ghosts will move in.

So we will see energy rate increases anywhrere from 13 to 38% due to "cap and trade"? the power companies dont care...THEY DONT PAY IT>>>>WE DO!!!! They simply pass it on to us. So when you here "cap and trade on businesses"...remember...they dont pay it...they simply pass it on to the consumer...just like any other tax! YES WE CAN!

SOL mentioned his belief in the ten commandments in an earlier post. This is where I may sound as a bit of a hypocrite but I really am not: I agree with SOL...the 10 commandments are a great building block to teach morals and how to treat your fellow man. How can you read the commandments and disagree with them? I guess I disagree with RELIGEON in general. All (or at least most) churches do great things and help people when they really need it. I simply choose not to belong to a church and the bible has too many contradictions and absurdities for me to belong. I CAN NOT sit in a pulpit and hear a story about the tower of babael where god got worried because some guys were building a tower to heaven and he gave them different languages so they couldnt complete the tower(thereby giving us our world-languages). I just dont buy it...but "thou shalt not kill"....I like!

I read the post from Jason who said (basically) that Democrats and Republicans are the same. I thought he was waaaaayyyy off...they couldnt be furhter apart in my view. And then I read his further explanation: "Both parties lie to get what they want" and I said EUREKA!!! I said the same thing before...only in a different way. We have elected too many poiticians that are more concerned with getting re-elected than serving what is BEST for the country/state/city/couny/township!

mike, are we not all figments of our own imagination? think about it. i know it will be hard but try.---jason, as to your offer of debate, get real, i am autistic not stupid.--as a point of information i am far more conservative than one might suspect. quite frankly, i am like dirty harry. i hate everyone but especially right wing know nothings that wrap themselves in lies, the bible and the flag.---- this is my last post for the week. my hands hurt from all the love letters i wrote to my mistress in argentina. my wife found out and bashed my hands with a hammer. that jenny is going to get everything in the divorce.---keep a look out in the next couple of weeks nilesilians, the roses of sharons are going to start blooming all over town shortly. always leave them with a little local color. toodles. nilesilians has a nice ring to it. it flows.

Rick- you compared Jill to betty bowers which I amsure is not a compliment. Well, I hate to break it to you but....you two are the same! You are SOOO far left you even embarrass the Democrats and she is SOOOOO far right she embarrasses the Republicans. You are the same. You both have blinders on. There is no reasoning with you or her....there is only us readers that read your posts and then say "are there REALLY people that think like this?".
