On Wednesday afternoon Brandywine Elementary cast members starring in Disney’s “The Aristocats Kids” practiced for the production during a dress rehearsal at the school.

This week, the 30 students involved will sing and dance their way through the story of a villainous butler who tries to get rid of some very determined cats, who join forces with other animals to foil the butler’s plans.

The show will premiere at 7:30 p.m. Thursday and Friday at Brandywine Elementary School, 2428 S. 13th St. Additional performances will take place at 3 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Saturday. Doors will be open 30 minutes prior to the production.

The show is directed by Brandywine alum August Garritano, who encouraged the community to support the 30 student actors involved.

“Give these kids an audience, because they worked so hard,” Garritano said. “As elementary schoolers, this is the first production some of our actors have starred in.”

Preparing for her role as Abigail Gabble, Abagail Solloway, 11, who has starred in several of the school’s latest productions, said she looks forward to trying out new roles.

“What I like about being in the production is having fun and meeting new people in the process of creating a show,” Solloway said.

Tickets are $5 and can be purchased at the door. Proceeds from the event will support upcoming musicals produced by the elementary and middle school. (Leader photos/EMILY SOBECKI)
