The Niles High School symphonic band came very close to achieving the highest rating at the Michigan State Band and Orchestra festival in Paw Paw over the weekend.

Band director Joshua Doe said the band received a very high “II” rating with a rating of “I” being the highest.

“Very close, if there had been a letter grade change — one more A- instead of a B+ — they would have had a ‘I,’” Doe said. “They did a great job. I’m very proud of them, and I love that they are excited about doing it again next year. It was a great motivational tool, and will help us grow as a group and musicians.”

Below is a break down of the judge’s scoring:

Judge 1 — II

Judge 2 — I

Judge 3 — II

Concert Rating — II

Sight reading — II

Final Rating — II

“It was a great experience and the kids already asked if they can go back next year,” Doe said.
