Record-setting Brandywine senior Emily Erwin will continue her academic and athletic career at Kalamazoo Valley Community College.

Erwin, who is a three-sport standout for the Bobcats, will play basketball for the Cougars after signing her national letter of intent April 20.

As a four-year varsity basketball player, Erwin set not only a school record with 262 career 3-pointers, but that also places here fourth all-time in the state of Michigan regardless of class.

This past season alone, Erwin connected on 85 3-pointers, another school record and she helped the Bobcats post a 91-7 overall record with four conference, three district, three regional and a trip to the Class C state semifinals this past March.

She was also a three-time first team all-conference pick and Class C All-State as picked by the Detroit Free Press.

“Emily’s best attribute is she is a great kid who comes from a fantastic family,” Brandywine coach Josh Hood said. “KVCC is getting a phenomenal young lady.”

Erwin knew that after visiting Kalamazoo Valley and talking with head coach Mauren Brown that she was making the right decision.

“It is a small school and close to home as well,” Erwin said. “I’ll be studying and working towards getting into the dental program. My expectations are to continue playing the sport I love and pursue a career in dental hygiene. I’m very excited for what the future holds.”

Erwin also looked at Lake Michigan College.

“I initially was looking at LMC but after visiting KVCC I found that it was the perfect fit for me,” she said. “Staying with a community college was the best choice.

Also want to add to why I choose to go there. I feel like I will fit right in with all the girls on the team. I love the coaches already and I know I’ll do very well playing there.”
