July 22, 1949 — April 13, 2016

Roger A. Brookins, 66, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, April 13, 2016, at his home with his loving family surrounding him.

He was born July 22, 1949, in Dowagiac, to the late Alton and Barbara (Watts) Brookins.

Roger was a lifelong resident of Dowagiac and graduated from Southwestern Michigan College. He worked for Clark Equipment Company for many years, and retired from Michigan Dept. of Health & Human Services in 2009 after many years of dedicated service to his community. Roger was a proud member of the Dowagiac Masonic Lodge; he enjoyed motorcycles, fishing and being surrounded by his family and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents; his first wife Kay Marie (Haines) Brookins, sister; Sherry Boyd.

Roger leaves to cherish his memory to his loving wife of 23 years, Laveda (Page) Brookins; children, Robin Brookins of Dowagiac, Roger Brookins Jr., of Dowagiac, Lashawn Brookins, of South Bend, Yolanda (James) Pugh, of Atlanta, Georgia, Bria Brookins, of Dowagiac, Jacoya Brookins, of Dowagiac , Kewanis Page, of Dowagiac, Victor Booker, of Las Vegas, Nevada; brother, Rodney Brookins, of Dowagiac; sister, Christine Phillips, of Georgia; nineteen grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, friends and family.

A home going celebration will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 20, 2016, with a time of visitation at noon, at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church; 601 Ferry St., Niles, Michigan, 49120.
