Hulett, Soderbloom toss back-to-back no-hitters

Dowagiac’s junior hurlers combined for a pair of no-hitters with 21 strikeouts and just three walks as the Chieftains swept visiting Sturgis 15-0 and 10-0 Thursday.

Both games lasted just five innings.

Taylor Hulett tossed her second consecutive no-hitter as she struck out 11 and walked just one Trojan.

Megan Soderbloom threw her first no-hitter of the season with 10 strikeouts and two walks.

“Once again our pitchers were awesome,” Dowagiac coach Mike Behnke said. “Taylor followed up her no-hitter with another one tonight and not to be out done Megan pitched one too. They also had 21 strikeouts in 27 total outs in the two games.”

Despite the two wins, Behnke knows his team has to continue improving as the Chieftains committed a combined three errors.

“With that in mind we have to play better defense when we only had to get six outs, three errors is too many.”

In the opener, Dowagiac banged out 10 hits, including 3-for-3 performances from Hulett and Amiyah Smith. Hulett also drove in four runs.

Soderbloom was 2-for-3 with a grand slam and five RBIs.

In the nightcap, Mickie Kiggins was 2-for-3 with two RBIs and Smith was 2-for-2 with an RBI.

Hulett doubled and drove in  pair of runs.
