Students got a nice surprise Tuesday afternoon when members of the Niles Eagles Lodge Ladies Auxiliary donated 10 new tablets and cases to Kelsey Dwyer’s kindergarten class at Ballard Elementary School in Niles.

The monetary value of the tablets and cases is estimated at approximately $700.

In addition to being used for general educational purposes, the tablets will help Dwyer overcome language barriers with some of her foreign students through the use of translation software.

As thanks, students gave red paper apples containing a poem and a foldout “thank you” card to each of the Eagles ladies.

Eagles members Barb Wilks, Peggy Richer, Cindy Havener, Irene Jarman and Katt Batman presented the tablets Tuesday.
