THREE OAKS — The Niles softball team had one bad inning and paid for it in a 6-5 loss to host River Valley in non-conference softball Tuesday.

Sadie Fountain had two hits and drove in a pair of runs, while Brooke Timm also had two hits.

Timm took the loss despite striking out seven and not issuing a walk.

“We lost a tough one tonight,” Niles coach Rick McKeel said. “We had one bad inning in the third. We gave up five runs with three errors. Brooke Timm pitched well as she went six innings, struck out seven with no walks and two earned runs.

“This was a tough loss no doubt about it, our kids fought from down 6-2 to almost pull this out.  We are young and there were a lot of positives to take from the game.”
