EAU CLAIRE — Brandywine has won 11 consecutive Division 4 District championships, but none may have come much easier than its 63-12 win over River Valley at Eau Claire High School Thursday night.

The Bobcats needed just 45 minutes to defeat the Mustangs and set their sights on the Division 4 Regional at Mendon Wednesday where they will face No. 3-ranked Decatur.

Bronson, ranked No. 7 and No. 8-ranked Schoolcraft will meet in the other semifinal.

Brandywine completely dominated River Valley, which advanced to the finals with a 40-36 win over the host Beavers, picking up eight pins out of the 14 weight classes.

Only two matches went beyond the first minute and despite being the overwhelming favorite coming into the match, veteran Brandywine coach Rex Pomranka was not taking anything for granted.

“You never know,” he said. “Things can go wrong. You could have a fluke injury. A kid could get caught in a headlock. Sometimes kids will try to do stuff that they’ve never done before.

“Our philosophy is to work with the stuff that you’ve been working on. Don’t try anything new. Always work for the next point. We take things one match and one day at a time. I take every match like we’re wrestling in a regional championship or a state final. You have to go out and do your stuff.”

The Bobcats, 29-9, finish the night with eight pins, including five straight. Winning with pins were Michael Kachur (119), Kaci Lintz (130), Jesse Lochmondy (135), Corbin Eckenberger (140), Ryan Buchar (145), Kristian Hertsel (152), Alex Shell (171) and Aaron Castro (285).
